The Most Down-to-Earth Guide to Picking Up Girls in Melbourne, Australia
Approaching, Hooking Up, and Getting Laid: How Asian Guys Can Break Through the Barriers?
Tested over 3 years, deeply connected with dozens of girls, from daytime street pickup to rooftop clubs — I’ll show you how to master Day/Night Game in this multicultural city.
Note:
A lot of my followers study or work in Australia, and I myself lived there for quite a long time. So when it comes to life in Australia — especially picking up girls — I’ve got quite a bit of hands-on experience. I’d say I know the scene well. So I’m sharing a few practical guides on how to approach and meet women in Australia.
Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city, has over 5 million people.
It’s an English-speaking city known for its classy coffee culture and lower cost of living compared to Sydney, which makes outdoor activities, including dating, more affordable.
From an urban design perspective, I personally think Melbourne is better than Sydney — public transport is more convenient.
In terms of education level, Melbourne girls are generally better educated than girls in other parts of Australia.
That said, it has its flaws — mainly the weather and public safety.
The following content is based on my three years living in Melbourne. I’ve compiled suggestions on how to effectively pick up and hook up with beautiful women here.

This is a practical pickup guide for Australia’s major cities.
But heads-up:
I left Australia almost five years ago. Although I’ve lived in nearly every Aussie city for extended periods, some info might be outdated.
Still, I’ve cross-referenced the latest sources and combined them with my personal experiences to present a realistic picture.
If you spot mistakes, feel free to leave a comment and correct me.
Overview of Melbourne Girls
First off, Melbourne has the highest non-white population among Australian cities. You’ll see Black folks and a large number of Asians.
Here’s a rough ethnic breakdown (based on Australia’s 2021 census data; 2025 data isn’t out yet but probably won’t be too different):
White (mainly English, Irish, Italian, Greek): ~50–60%
Asians (Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Sri Lankan, etc.): ~25–30%
Chinese (Mainland, HK, Taiwan): ~6–8%
Indian: ~5–7%
Vietnamese: ~2–4%
Middle Eastern and North African (Lebanese, Iranian, Turkish, etc.): ~5%
Black (Sudanese, Ethiopian, Somali, etc.): ~3%
Indigenous women: ~1%
Latin American and mixed race: ~1–2%
Of course, these are rough stats. Reality is more complex with mixed-race people, second-gen immigrants, cultural identity, etc.
So, if you’re only into European-looking girls, Melbourne does have them, but compared to other parts of Australia, the white population here isn’t the highest.
Another thing: Melbourne’s weather left a horrible impression on me. I always joke that “life” in Melbourne only exists during the three summer months. Winter is rainy, cold, and windy — makes it hard to do anything outside.
I’ve said before that warmer places with more outdoor activities usually have girls with better bodies.
From my experience, Melbourne girls don’t have as sexy bodies as those in Brisbane. Their fashion tends to lean more intellectual. Overall, they’re not the hottest in Australia, but they’re often more educated.
Another factor — Melbourne’s close to Adelaide. In my experience, girls from Adelaide are among the most educated and open-minded in Australia.
But looks-wise, Melbourne girls aren’t the top-tier in the country.
Day Game — Best Spots for Daytime Pickup
I used to live in Melbourne’s CBD. Personally, I think CBD is the best place to approach girls. It’s compact, busy, and has free trams — makes pickup super convenient.
Outdoor pedestrian streets:
Burke Street Mall: Near Burger Street, especially in front of H&M. Super safe and chill. Even girls who aren’t shopping pass through or wait for trams. Whether they’re shopping or just walking around, you can easily approach them here. I’ve had lots of successful pickups in this spot.
Swanson & Elizabeth Street: Connects Fed Square, Bateman Ave Bridge, and Flinders Station. Lots of foot traffic — great for day game.
Degraves Street & Block Arcade: Famous laneways and arcades packed with cafes, bookstores, and boutiques.

Shopping centers:
Girls love shopping, so malls are prime spots. They’re relaxed and open to interaction.
Try these:
Bourke Street & Emporium (close together — hit both in one go)
Melbourne Central (near Latrobe Street)
Westfield (farther from city center)
CBD Landmarks:
Fed Square & Flinders Station: Cultural/art center, street performers, pop-up markets. Lots of people during sunset. Good place to chat, but watch out — online reviews say safety has worsened.
Hosier Lane: Melbourne’s famous graffiti alley near Fed Square — tourist hotspot.

Southbank Promenade: Chill area with views, bars by the Yarra River, and scenic bridges. Not as packed but safe and relaxed.
University Zones:
Around Melbourne Uni and RMIT — lots of cafes and cultural events. Great for chatting with students or young professionals.
Also check out State Library Victoria on Swanson Street — top spot to meet smart college girls.

Places I don’t recommend:
Queen Victoria Market: Too crowded and commercial. Not a good vibe for pickup.
Chinatown: Mainly for eating — approaching girls here feels awkward.
Best Day Game Spot Overall: Burke Street near H&M in the CBD. High efficiency, low pressure.
Parks & Other Spots:
Royal Botanic Gardens: Close to CBD, spacious and quiet. Great for casual conversations during walks or photos.
Carlton Gardens: Behind CBD, has the Melbourne Museum. Not many people. Not recommended due to entrance fee and low crowd density.
Beach: Melbourne isn’t a beach city.
St Kilda is the most famous beach, but far and hard to reach by tram. Way less crowded than Sydney’s Bondi — so not ideal for pickup.
Summary:
Melbourne’s free tram system and compact CBD make it perfect for day game.
You don’t need a strict plan — just walk around, do your thing. If you spot a girl you like, go talk to her. If she’s interested, great. If not, move on.
So yeah, hang out more in the CBD, chill at a cafe, and you’ll naturally run into good targets. Best bang for your buck.
Night Game — Best Spots for Picking Up at Night
Melbourne’s night scene has lots of great bars. Perfect for meeting pretty, single girls.
But competition is fierce — especially local Aussie guys, who are super active and full of game.
Weekends are wild. People come out right after work to party and flirt. The vibe is social, but the competition is rough. I’ve gone “hunting” on weekends with wingmen before — honestly, results were just so-so.
Weeknights are actually better — less dudes, more lonely/horny girls out for a drink or some fun. Easier to close.
I personally don’t drink, and alcohol in Australia is pricey. Plus, some clubs have entry fees. I also had a full-time job back then (wasn’t retired yet), so I didn’t have much energy for the nightlife.
Eventually, I shifted to focusing on day game. Less pressure, slower pace, better for building connection. Also, it’s more natural — just walk around, grab a coffee, approach someone. Feels chill.
But if you’re into drinking and nightlife, Melbourne’s scene is still solid. Lots of girls, lots of chances.
Top Nightlife Areas for Pickup:
Fitzroy
CBD (especially around Swanston Street)
Collingwood
South Bank
St Kilda
Specific bars I like or recommend:
My personal favorite is hands down the CBD — most action, most convenient.
Spice Market: My fav in the CBD. Open on weeknights, lots of locals.
Goldilocks Rooftop Bar: Cheap rooftop bar, attracts Western backpackers.
Bomba Tapas Bar & Rooftop: Fancier rooftop spot. Good for meeting new people or dates.
Miss Collins: Nightclub popular with Latin folks. Not my style — too loud.
Chapel Street (between South Yarra and Prahran): Local bar street. Good for meeting Aussie girls, but locals aren’t super into tourists. Tough competition.
Revolver Upstairs: Probably the most famous nightclub in Prahran. Full of young Aussies.
Online Game — Not the Best of Minorities
Even though Australia is an English-speaking country with lots of people, online dating is tough for Asians due to racism.
Tinder, Bumble, Hinge
— they’re popular but not super effective.
That’s why I recommend face-to-face game. Even 10–20 seconds of confident, funny banter beats hours of swiping.
If you’re white or Black, your odds are better. But as an Asian guy, especially a Chinese guy, apps just don’t work that well.
Dating Tips
1/ Don’t rely on dating apps — get out and approach:
I’ve hooked up with dozens of girls in Melbourne, and the best method is face-to-face pickup.
Asian guys get rejected a lot on dating apps. But in real life, you can show confidence and humor in a few seconds — much better odds.
If you’re white or Black, maybe apps are okay. But for Asians — especially Chinese — real-world pickup is the way to go.
