I Just Had the STDs Test in Brazil And Here’s the Bummer
How It Looked Like Having STDs Examination in Brasil
Last Thursday, as usual, I had my annual STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) health check-up.
This is a routine matter for me every 6 to 12 months, at least once a year. I usually wait until I return to Brazil to have this test done because the medical services here are quite convenient and it’s free, which is quite beneficial.
I’m based in Balneário, but this time around, I headed over to the Policlinica Centro in Florianópolis. I’ve been there a couple of times, so I know the drill. Plus, a buddy of mine was heading to Florianópolis, so he gave me a ride, which was a total lifesaver.
After the check-up, I even managed to squeeze in a catch-up with one of my “girl friends,” killing two birds with one stone.
The whole process was a breeze: I just had to state my business at the check-up desk, sign in, flash my passport, and no money talk needed. Then it was just chilling in the waiting area until they called my name.
The doc lady who checked me out was a real cool chick. We had a pretty good chat while she was at it. She asked if I’d been up to any risky business, and I was like, “Nah, I’m clean as a whistle, and I make sure to get checked out every year.”
I had to admit, I felt a bit sheepish about taking advantage of Brazil’s free health services, but she just laughed it off and said it happens all the time.
Once she knew it was just a routine yearly thing, she got down to business, drawing some blood and checking for HIV, syphilis, and a couple of types of herpes.
About half an hour later, I had my all-clear report in hand. I’m feeling pretty good about it, and I’ve even posted a screenshot of the results for anyone who’s curious.
I go into more detail about safe sex practices on my blog, so if you’re interested, hit me up.

Just a reminder to everyone out there, it’s important to get a health check-up at least once a year. It’s good for you and shows respect for your partner.
The only bummer was, I probably should’ve asked for that lovely doctor’s number, but she was swamped at the time.
